Saturday, November 12 was a great day for the 2022 Veterans Day Fishing Tournament. While they could not fish on Veterans Day due to heavy rain, Saturday turned out with excellent weather. The VDFT had a record turnout of 116 teams/boats.
Tournament Director Larry Martin noted: “Thank you veterans past and present, and all of you future Military service men and women and to the great supporters that show their appreciation.”
Here are a few stats: 224 anglers fished, 74 veterans and 150 supporters. The field consisted of 26 Army vets, 16 Navy vets, 19 Marines, 3 Coast Guardsman and one National Guardsman. A total of 305 largemouth bass were caught and all but two were released alive and well. There were 42 five- fish limits. 62 sponsors donated $14,630 worth of prizes that were given out. 35 prize packages were given to veterans worth $9,700. 24 prize packages went to supporters worth $4,930. $5,990 was paid out to 24 places. Matt Martin and Josh Hall wont with 17 lbs. and won $1,050. Paul Spence had big fish at 7.55 lbs. and earned $640.
